The current pressures and lengthy waiting times on NHS GP appointments and physiotherapy referrals, can leave patients in pain and discomfort for long periods of time. This can greatly affect a person’s quality of life and there is the potential that, if left for extended periods, conditions could deteriorate further. Rather than allowing your symptoms to take over your day-to-day living during this time, you can opt for a private physiotherapy assessment as your first contact or to top-up your NHS treatment programme.

Initial assessment and treatment

At Redbourn Physiotherapy, we can offer an initial assessment of your symptoms and discuss with you the appropriate treatment options available at the practice. If you are presenting complex symptoms, it may be that you will still require a referral through your GP, such as for an X-ray or MRI scan. In this instance, we are able to work alongside your NHS appointments as a complementary service, providing appropriate therapy to help alleviate your symptoms while you wait for your consultations and results.

Top-up treatment options

Another area in which Redbourn Physiotherapy is able to complement NHS appointments is as a ‘top-up’ service. It may be that you are beginning a physiotherapy treatment programme for a condition, but there is a long gap between appointments. In this instance we can work with the NHS physiotherapy assessment, providing additional therapy to aid recovery and provide relief, such as through therapeutic ultrasound, exercise progression, acupuncture, mobilisation, or massage.

Our First Contact Practitioner

For initial, in-person assessments, our experienced First Contact Practitioner, Mark Brennan, can assess your presenting problem and talk through with you all the factors that contribute to the impact it has on your daily life. From here, Mark can discuss a treatment plan to alleviate the symptoms, reduce pain and work towards your recovery, as well as suggesting other courses of treatments that may be necessary, either in-house or through a GP referral. Mark has extensive experience working in and alongside NHS physiotherapy teams and will be able to suggest the best course for your treatment to move forward.
