Recovering from an injury is not always a straightforward process. When this is the case, complementary and extended treatment options can help a patient reach a full recovery. These treatments may be short or long-term options depending on the stage of recovery and the particular injury or condition, but whatever your situation we can work with you to find the right treatment options. Here, we outline the extended services available at Redbourn Physiotherapy, how they can aid your recovery and maintain your health.

Sports and Remedial Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is an excellent option either to continue your recovery beyond the acute phase of an injury, or to maintain flexibility and motion when training. The massage treatment we offer at the clinic can broadly be split into two categories:

Remedial massage

Conditions which are often related to desk work can benefit from remedial massage, which concentrates on reducing the symptoms associated with poor posture. Our massage therapists will target problem areas, such as the back and shoulders, and offer guidance on exercises to prevent the recurrence of these symptoms.

Sports Massage

Maintaining muscle flexibility is an important part of any sports training. Regular deep tissue massage can help improve muscle condition and aid recovery if you have experienced a sporting injury.

Our team of massage therapists are trained to a very high standard and work closely with our Chartered Physiotherapist and Pilates instructors to offer a targeted and holistic treatment that will compliment your recovery process.

Osteopathy

Osteopathy focuses on the structure and function of the body and endeavours to find how and why a problem has occurred. Focusing on the root cause of an injury can greatly benefit your recovery and prevent recurrence. Osteopathy can involve a number of treatment options based on an active assessment of how your body is moving. This can include soft tissue massage, joint articulation and manipulation where appropriate.

Podiatry/Chiropody

A podiatrist can offer you treatment options for injuries and conditions related to the foot and ankle. Podiatrists are able to diagnose, treat and prevent foot problems using physical, mechanical, chemical and surgical therapies. If you are recovering from a running injury, a comprehensive gait assessment can be particularly useful in establishing if the cause of injury is related to your body’s motion. The podiatrists can then offer corrective treatments, such as custom orthotics, or exercise options to help to prevent recurrence.

Pilates

Pilates is a holistic exercise method, which works on conditioning the whole body through a range of movements and exercises. It complements physiotherapy and can aid recovery through its focus on postural awareness, increased flexibility, core strengthening and balance restoration. Our Pilates instructors are Chartered Physiotherapists and/or have trained under a recognised Pilates Training Institute. They can offer 1-to-1 sessions to aid your initial recovery, which can then extend into group classes for ongoing maintenance.

Thrive Lifestyle Programme

Our Thrive Lifestyle programme is orientated to those with type 2 diabetes or those at risk of developing the condition. Recent scientific studies show that diabetes and other modern lifestyle diseases can be prevented and even reversed with sustainable life changes that focus on fixing the underlying causes. The thrive lifestyle programme can work well towards your long-term recovery through education, planning and changing habits towards a healthier lifestyle.
